A proposal to integrate the hidden city to the sea. A permanent legacy.
This architecture competition demonstrated our technical team's flexibility in proposing creative solutions for urban spaces beyond sports venues. As part of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games city transformation, the Rio Municipality invited selected architecture studios to propose a complete renovation of the port area, a long-held ambition for the city.
Our project for a new neighborhood in the port region of Rio de Janeiro proposes planning and restructuring the city at three levels: urban, regional and local. Across three large concrete slabs with expansive public plazas, the concept creates a complete recycling of the urban landscape.
The plazas are integrated through gardens and multisport courts shaded by overhead columns, alongside spaces converted from Olympic programme use into legacy mode. The programme also includes residential apartments in both legacy and event configurations with 10,600 rooms, a multifunctional commercial building, an aparthotel, 3 and 5-star hotels and a convention centre, together creating the foundation for a dynamic new neighbourhood in the city.
