Contemporary architecture meeting and respecting cultural traditions.
We were hired by the municipality of Canela to develop a training facility on a charming green site, where a cultural community centre already operates, to potentially host a Team Base Camp for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The programme consisted of a football pitch, an official running track, a 2,000-capacity stand, an indoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, complete gymnastics training facilities and a restaurant, with full media and athlete facilities.
The architecture was composed of simple, rational and functional solutions using local materials, glass and wood structural elements, primarily designed to serve the local community through daily activities, including a fully integrated cultural hall and a traditional barbecue social area.
